The Namibia Desert Xplorer Tour departs from bustling Cape Town and soon heads up the West Coast of South Africa to the Namibian border at Vioolsdrift. From here we follow the downstream flow of the Orange River through the Namibian Richtersveldt, on delightful gravel roads.
From our temporary base outside the town of Aus we explore the desert coastal town of Luderitz and Kolmanskop - a ghost mining town of yester year. On our way back to Aus we stop at the mysterious feral horses of Garub. Our gravel journey continues north to Sesriem from where we will explore the unique Namib desert at Sossusvlei in the Namib Naukluft Park. We follow the glorious gravel roads north to the coastal town of Swakopmund for a two night stop over to fully enjoy its German culture and colonial feel.
From Swakopmund we ride to the iconic Spitzkoppe mountains and then to Windhoek, the capital. During our ride south we detour to the Brukaros Meteorite crater and visit the majestic Fish River Canyon (only second in size to the Grand Canyon). Ever so slowly we cruise south to Cape Town.
The Namibia Desert Xplorer Tour is a high impact tour, taking in some of the most scenic destinations, roads and mountain passes the vast southern Namibia has on offer. We mostly travel on good gravel roads, however you will require previous gravel riding experience to enjoy this tour and have a safe journey. The ever changing road surfaces of Namibia could potentially be very dangerous to the inexperienced rider.
